DJs That Suck

Trance music has become one of the most popular dance styles in the world, rapidly growing into one of Ibiza's largest musical movements. Sadly, with great success comes great depreciation, and successes like Armin Van Buuren offer a clear example of what happens when a genre falls into the trappings of conformity and constant reproduction. Trance should be - in fact, usually is - beautiful. It is music to get blissed out to. Unfortunately, as it has become more and more popular, DJs like Van Buuren have hit on a formula that accomplishes the goal of creating blissed out audiences without needing to develop aesthetically in any way shape or form. Where the likes of exciting underground labels such as PAN and Tri Angle are attempting to create experimental and mood-distorting soundscapes that break apart the notion of trance music as a concept, Van Buuren and company continue to push out the same synths that have driven Ibiza's music scene for almost 30 years now. This is the kind of dance music that is used in adverts for cars and the like. Boring, predictable, generic, marketable.
